National campaign to improve Child Sex Ratio, prevent sex-selective abortion, and promote education of girl child across India

Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (Save the Daughter, Educate the Daughter) is a joint initiative of Ministry of Women & Child Development, Health & Family Welfare, and Human Resource Development. It targets districts with lowest Child Sex Ratios (CSR) and aims to eliminate gender-biased sex selective elimination, ensure survival and protection of the girl child, and promote education and participation of women.

Key component: Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana (SSY) bank account for girl child savings with high interest rate.

For SSY: Girl child below 10 years at account opening
Account in girl's name, operated by parents/guardian
Max 2 accounts per family (exception for twins/triplets)
